12. The Second Meeting with

                ‘USHIKUBI-TSUMUGI'

 

After my encountering with ‘USHIKUBI-TSUMUGI' at the event site, I wanted to see ‘USHIKUBI-TSUMUGI' again. I wanted to make sure of its fascinating beauty, naturally reserved, but perfect luster firm and supple quality.

With a vague purpose of what I'd do with it, I went to main departments stores in Tokyo to ask “ Do you sell ‘USHIKUBI-TSUMUGI'?.

I visited S department in Ikebukuro, M and MA in Ginza , T in Shibuya, but I had no luck.

‘ Maybe there wouldn't be any ‘USHIKUBI-TSUMUGI' existed any more” , thought I.

At every place I visited, responses were either “ No, we haven't”, or “ We exhibit one only at a special occasion”.

Feeling of ‘ Why not' and ‘ It was a phantom' in my mind, got stronger and made me almost give up looking for one.

To make it double sure, I searched ‘USHIKUBI-TSUMUGI' at the Internet.

Believe it or not, I found one in it. I happened to find one on HP of Nishiyama Sangyou Kaihatsu Co. Ltd. , a production company at Shimane. I saw ‘ USHIKUBI-TSUMUGI' being introduced.

And there I saw a contact address of Kagano-Shokuza in Tsuruki-machi near Kanazawa-city.

They were selling ‘USHIKUBI-TSUMUGI' directly to the consumers.

I was thrilled with the website , but questioned myself. “ I could phone there , but say ‘ What?'”.

After two days of consideration, I finally called. “ Aah, I'm the one who saw ‘USHIKUBI-TSUMUGI' Why can't I find one at any department stores?”

They reasoned for my question that they were not producing ‘USHIKUBI-TSUMUGI' enough to offer there and that they seldom have exhibitions for them.

I decided to ask, “ if I said I wanted to sell them, could I do it? with a little bit of hesitation.

The person on the phone said, “ We'll gladly sell them to anyone, but with only a fixed price. One more thing , the price cannot be made cheaper just because we produce them at the producing center here.”

To hear that, I jumped for joy. That they ‘d sell them to me meant I could be a seller of ‘USHIKUBI-TSUMUGI'. “ That's marvelous!”, thought I and cried after I hung up the phone. I would never forget the feeling of joy at that time.

I was still on the step where selling Kimonos had been only a dream.

But the thought ‘Maybe I could make it!' made me more animated as to my activity since then.

Mr. Nishiyama, Deputy Manager of the Nishiyama Sangyou Kaihatsu Co. ltd.

Whom I had talked to on the phone at the time was the son of the president of the company.

So I mailed to Mr. Nishiyama who now became to know through a fine line of a telephone, and explained that I intended to set up an online shop in order for connecting prospective customers and the producing center adding that selling ‘USHIKUBI-TSUMUGI' was still far fro realization.

Just that time, Mr. Nishiyama himself was thinking of introducing it through Internet,

Which at that time was an innovative means for selling Kimonos.
